Exercise and How to Manage Stress

Stress can be defined as a state of emotional or mental strain which in most cases have adverse effects. One is said not to be a good state of mind when they are stressed. Stress is caused by very many factors. Different people usually have different stress triggers. Our workplaces can be our source of stress. At the workplace, one can be affected by being unhappy with the job, working for long hours, and working under dangerous conditions. The other category of stress is the life stress. These emanate from the death of a loved one, divorce, loss of a job, getting married and much more.

Sometimes however, stress can come from inside. It is possible to stress oneself by worrying about some things. The fear of certainty, attitude and perceptions, unrealistic expectations, and major life changes can make a person worry a lot hence resulting to stress. Stress is not something that is healthy. Hence, the need to be stress free. Stress has negative health implications. Examples are a headache, fatigue, and irritability and difficulty in sleeping. Some of the health implications of stress can be life-threatening. However, there are ways that can help a stressed person to do away with the stress.

Some of these ways are as follows. It is important that a stressed person should avoid caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol. Both nicotine and caffeine are stimulants. These substances will increase the levels of stress rather than reducing. Despite alcohol being a depressant when consumed in large quantities, it is not an effective way of managing the stress. Getting more sleep is a simple way that can help a stressed person to reduce the stress levels. Lack of sleep has been identified to be a cause of stress. Another tip of managing stress is the utilization of the relaxation techniques. Majority of these relaxation techniques have been tried and tested.

The other means of stress management is through doing physical exercises. There is an increase in the stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline when someone is stressed. The levels of these hormones can be increased further by doing exercise. Even the slow exercises can still assist one to achieve these effects. Walking in fresh air can also be useful. A more permanent situation is the incorporation of physical activities in your daily routine.

There are certain ways on how exercise help in stress management. Exercise has the effect of pumping endorphins into the body. These are brain’s feel-good neurotransmitters. When someone exercises, they tend to forget about the irritations that they have had. Another way on how exercise reduces the stress levels is by improving someone’s mood. This is done by increasing one’s self-confidence, it can help someone to relax and can also lower the symptoms of mild depression and anxiety.
